The most common form of water heating in New Zealand homes is with electric storage cylinders.
Hot water cylinders installed before 2002 are unlikely to be insulation incorporated so they lose heat - handy for warm linen but not your power bill.
You can reduce heat loss and save money with a hot water cylinder insulation wrap.
If you wish to have a wrap installed you need at least 75mm clearance around your hot water cylinder.
If we are insulating your home we can provide a quote for supply and install a hot water cylinder wrap at the same time the insulation is installed.
EECA Energywise have estimated that you could save $80 a year on electricity on older hot water cylinders (pre 1987).
Heat can be lost through the pipes coming out of your cylinder. It is recommended that you use pipe lagging/insulation on the first 1-1.5 m of pipe leaving the cylinder.
Electric hot water cylinders in New Zealand can be insulated as long as you can reach around it to fit the insulation wrap - a 75mm clearance gap around the cylinder is usually required.
