Changes to the Healthy Homes Standards - Compliance Timeframes.
On November 26th 2022, the timeframe to comply with the healthy homes standards for private landlords, Kāinga Ora and Community Housing providers (who have not yet been required to comply under the healthy homes standards) - has been extended by the Government.
- All private rentals must comply with the healthy homes standards within 120 days of any new or renewed tenancy, with all private rentals complying by 1 July 2025. Previously this deadline was 90 days.
- All houses rented by Kāinga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must comply by 1 July 2024. This is a one year extension.
- All rental houses must already comply with the healthy homes standards.
Please Note - You won’t be required to do any extra work to comply with these changes, if your rental property already meets the healthy homes standards.
